Jacksonville native, Val Demings, officially announced Wednesday morning that she’s running for U.S. Senate in next year’s election.
Demings was the first police chief in Orlando and was later elected into Congress in 2016.
She is now looking to take a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Demings will challenge Sen. Marco Rubio next year.
Rubio tweeted a video of his reaction on Deming’s announcement. In the video, he says “I’m looking forward to this campaign because it’s going to offer the people of Florida a very clear difference.”
