Glynn County police lieutenant de-escalates 2 possible deadly situations in 1 day

Glynn, GA. — On May 2, 2021, what could have been a deadly day in Glynn County was not due to Lt. Koenig and his quick thinking.

Lt. Koenig is a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team for the Glynn County Police Department.

Lt. Koenig started out his Sunday responding to a domestic dispute in the Hwy 82/Exit 29 area.

He was familiar with the area and suspect due to previous interactions.

Once at the situation, he was able to de-escalate the situation and place the suspect in custody without any incident.

The person was transported to a hospital for help.

Later that night, Lt. Koenig responded to a possible suicidal person on the Sidney Lanier Bridge.

He found the person standing on the bridge with tears in their eyes.

Again Lt. Koenig, was able to de-escalate the situation and pull the person in for a hug.

This person was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Lt. Koenig’s professionalism and dedication to the citizens of Glynn County, quite possibly prevented two horrible outcomes in one evening.
