JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local child care center was caught operating without a valid credential, according to the state. In the Action News Jax Kid Care Report, anchor Letisha Bereola shows you the other violations at a center that cares for dozens of kids.
Even though it’s operating under a provisional license, the Florida Department of Children and Families still tagged one local day care center with a pretty serious violation.
The YMCA “Team Up” program at Ramona Elementary School takes care of about 70 kids with six staff members. During its latest state inspection, DCF tagged it for two Class 2 violations, which could pose a threat to the health and safety of a child, according to the state. One was for the director not having an active credential. They were given a provisional license until February 2020.
The second Class 2 violation was for a staff member working without a cleared background check. It came back clean 10 days after the employee began working.
A YMCA spokesperson sent the following comment: “The safety and security of the children in our care is always the Y’s top priority. The First Coast YMCA took immediate action to address any concerns related to the last DCF visit and is now compliant with DCF guidelines.”
The day care in this week’s Kid Care Report is Nanny’s Northside Nursery Inc. off Biscayne Blvd. Its last three inspections were violation free. Bereola stopped by and talked to the owner he told me it hasn’t been easy.
“DCF is getting harder and harder to deal with … awful a lot of rules," he said.
“How do you guys keep that up?” Bereola asked.
"Hard work,” he said.
