A Jacksonville man was killed in a head-on crash Wednesday on 103rd street, troopers say.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as 59-year-old Marshall Waldeck. The accident happened around 6:05 p.m. on 103rd Street at Jammes Road.
According to the crash report, Waldeck was driving when he crossed the center lane and went into oncoming traffic.
Troopers said he collided head-on with another car. The FHP said the driver was seriously hurt and the 8-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.
Waldeck was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Gloria Harris lived across the street the victim for years and said he usually kept to himself.
“I’m very sad to hear that because he seemed like a very nice guy even though we didn’t (converse) a lot,” Harris said.
She described 103rd Street as dangerous and said it’s a road she tries to avoid.
“It’s getting really, really hectic, especially at certain times of the day,” Harris said.
Troopers said it’s unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash. The report did not mention anything about speed or what caused Waldeck to cross into oncoming traffic.
