Jacksonville Beach, FL. — After three years of waiting Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Beach Hotel is finally open in Jacksonville Beach.
The hotel celebrated its opening on Tuesday.
You may have driven past it. It’s located on 1st Street North along the beach.
Action News Jax’s Alicia Tarancon spoke with local businesses in the area who told her they’re welcoming the new addition.
About a mile down the street sits Jax Beach Brunch Haus, a popular breakfast staple in the area.
Dan Altman, the owner, told Action News Jax he gets a lot of foot traffic from people staying at the local hotels so a place like Margaritaville Beach Hotel will be sure to bring in new customers to his restaurant.
“Any business is good business to bring to Jacksonville,” Altman said.
He wants to make sure people support local businesses as much as possible, but he says larger corporate businesses are also part of growing the local economy.
Kristin Delgado, the general manager of Margaritaville Beach Hotel, told Action News Jax the 85 million dollar hotel will help drive new visitors to Jacksonville Beach.
“These people they’re not only going to spend money here but they’re going to go out in Jax Beach to all the local businesses and spend money,” Delgado said.
Many businesses at the beaches have faced uncertainty during the pandemic.
Some have been forced to close and many people lost their jobs but Delgado says the new hotel will be able to create 200 new jobs for the area and that’s good news to those already here.
“I think any signs of growth and any way we can help create local jobs for people is going to be a benefit to the community,” Altman said.
