'He could've done anything': Guns, masks, body armor, more seized in Orange Park stop, arrest

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Guns, body armor, masks and more were seized from a car during a traffic stop in Orange Park early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Officers believe this arrest may have prevented a violent crime.  They’re working to learn if the suspect, 20-year-old Jordan Edwards, had sinister plans.

Staff at the Kidz Klubhouse day care take their kids to Gano Park almost every day.

They were shocked to learn about the stop made by officers nearby.

“That’s scary, very scary,” Kelsi Callahan of, Kidz Klubhouse, said.  “Especially because it’s so close to our park, somewhere where kids should feel safe, but they don’t, and they can’t.”

Police say they seized two guns with ammunition, ski masks and gloves, body armor and brass knuckles.  They said they stopped Edwards for a bad tag light.

Officers also say they found drugs and arrested Edwards.

“He could have done anything,” said Amy Allen, of Kidz Klubhouse.  “There’s kids out here, and obviously these aren’t the only kids that come out here, so it makes me a little bit nervous.”

Police said neither Edwards nor his passenger who wasn’t arrested would say where they got the guns but that Edwards does not have a permit for them.

An Orange Park Police Department representative told Action News Jax, "Anyone riding around with these things in combination is a potential risk to the public.”

Action News Jax asked if Edwards may have been part of a larger group or gang and was planning an attack.  We were told, “Not that we are aware of at this time, but it's certainly something we are looking into.”

Action News Jax did confirm police notified other surrounding agencies about the possible threat.

For now, this daycare will likely make changes.

“Maybe we should take them to a different park,” Allen said.  “It’s a little close.”
