'It's just ridiculous:' Jacksonville neighbors call for end to violence at Ice Lounge

Neighbors are calling for action after a shooting at a club on Jacksonville's Northside.

It’s the third violent crime at the Ice Lounge Action News Jax has covered in the past three months.

“This is a very nice, good neighborhood. That is a nuisance on the corner,” Latrice Newell said.

A witness says the club on Soutel Drive was packed at 3:30 a.m. Sunday when gunfire sent everyone running. Officers found a man shot in the back.

Police said the Ice Lounge was required to close its doors after the shooting because officers found they were selling alcohol after 2 a.m.

"This is the third, fourth thing that's happened up there," Newell said. "It's just ridiculous now."
Sky Action News Jax flew above the club in October. A man told officers he was kidnapped in Tampa, then taken to the lounge.

In December, a woman was arrested after she allegedly attacked a man with a machete after a fight at the club.

Another shooting was reported inside the lounge in March of 2017.

“We have 80-, 70-, 65-year-old women that have been here since I was a child. They deserve a better quality of life. They should be able to sleep at night,” Newell said.

Neighbors in Washington Estates tell Action News Jax the area around the club has been an issue for more than a decade.

“The young people that go there, they don’t understand,” Newell said. “They blast their music until 4 o’clock in the morning. They are throwing their trash from their cars into the parking lot, all over the place.”

Action News Jax went by the Ice Lounge to get their side of the story but the club is closed on Sundays.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did not have any information to share about a possible suspect in Sunday's shooting.
