20-year-old shot while trying to pick up little cousins from bus stop

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A young woman shot in broad daylight while trying to pick up her little cousins from the bus stop.

The suspect or suspects haven't been found yet, the family just wants answers.

"I heard a big old loud boom and my first instinct was to just turn around, and so I turned around and then all of a sudden I just fell," explains Akira Clyburn.

The 20-year-old can't walk, or even stand, for that matter. She has a metal rod in her right leg that goes all the way up to her hip after randomly getting shot last Thursday.

Her mother Marian Cooper exclaims, "That was like the worst thing like you never want to hear that your child was shot."

Clyburn was walking on the sidewalk at 103rd Street to pick up her two cousins from the bus stop like she does every school day, when she was shot in the leg.

"He was like 'Well, ma'am you got shot,' and then I looked and, yep, there was a hole."

And even though Clyburn is now out of the hospital and recovering, her mother's anger for what happened to her little girl is just starting to set in.

"This has truly traumatized her. Any pop, she jumps. Any loud sounds, she's startled, like in a full out panic attack," explains Cooper.

Despite Clyburn having a long road ahead just to be able to walk again, she says this won't be a setback.

"I ain't letting no one stop me."
