22-year-old killed, 2 more hurt in Columbia County crash

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — One person was killed and two were hurt in a crash Friday afternoon in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:20 p.m.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of a pickup truck traveling on SW Herlong Street failed to stop at a stop sign as it approached CR 131, where he drove directly into the path of an oncoming SUV.

Following the collision, the pickup truck overturned, ejecting and killing a 22-year-old passenger. The 53-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. FHP said both men were from Abbeville, Louisiana.

The 72-year-old driver and sole occupant of the SUV suffered serious injuries, according to a report.

FHP does not identify the victims of fatal crashes.
