3 killed in hit-and-run crash in North Jacksonville

The charred remains of a black BMW were towed away from Duval Station Road Sunday morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said there were three people inside of it when it was struck by a silver car.

Police said the crash caused the BMW to hit a tree and then burst into flames.

Action News Jax spoke with a resident who didn’t want to go on camera, but says he heard an explosion.

He says he ran to help. All three people were out of the car when he got there.

But JSO said they didn't survive, and the driver of the other silver car took off.

Residents say this is a dangerous stretch of road.

“It's their daily routine to see how fast they can go and get around this curb,” said David Harris.

A resident who didn’t want to be identified said he’s seen too many close calls where the hit-and-run happened.

“They get to this curve and it's hard to negotiate the curve and they come in the other lane it's a sharp curve,” he said.

Residents said hit-and-runs are happening across  Northeast Florida all too often and they hope the person responsible is caught.

JSO said they are searching for the driver of the car that hit the BMW.

They believe the car is a newer-model silver car that could have damage to driver’s side.
