4 teens arrested in connection with 2 carjackings, 1 attempted carjacking in Jacksonville

Four people were arrested Thursday night stemming from two carjackings in Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four teenagers were arrested Thursday night stemming from two carjackings and an attempted carjacking within two days in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said one victim was sitting in his Ford Explorer, which he had bought earlier in the day, at his home in the 2100 block of Cavalry Boulevard when he heard a tap on the window and saw two young men holding guns and their faces covered. The two demanded that he get out of the SUV, JSO said.

The two took off in the Explorer with the victim's cellphone inside, JSO said.

A Nissan Rogue was seen leaving the scene at the same time. JSO said the Rogue was reported carjacked the night before.

The victim a carjacking to police reported around 8 p.m. The victim’s wife told officers she tracked his phone to the area of Academy Sports on Atlantic Boulevard.

JSO attempted to locate the phone in the area near Academy Sports, but didn’t find it. It appears that the phone might have been turned off by the suspects as phone calls go directly to voicemail.

Officers spotted and pursued the two vehicles.

One vehicle hit a cement median at Monument and McCormick roads. Two suspects who were in the vehicle ran and were later caught, JSO said.

Police said the second vehicle crashed into another on Merrill Road just east of Interstate 295. The two suspects in the vehicle were arrested.

Police also responded just before 8 p.m. to an attempted carjacking at a home in the 800 block of Long Lake Drive. The victim said two young men who attempted to take the vehicle got out of a Rogue holding small black semi-automatic handguns with their faces covered, JSO said.

Police arrested a 16-year-old, a 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds.
