A St. Johns County elementary school has new science-based seating policy

Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus said in a press release Tuesday that their students are able to pick their favorite seating or standing option in the classroom.

According to campus head Peggy Cambell-Rush, "Students can make decisions based on how they feel that day. Learning is active and involved and fully embraces the brain-body connection."

The press release says science shows in order for the brain to stay active, the body needs to move. This means students should not sit still for too much longer than their age or their attention fades.
The press release calls this seating policy move-to-learn seating.
Students can choose from a variety of seating options including standing desks, couches and pod rockers, according to the press release.
Campbell-Rush said in the press release that these seating options have caused an increase in learning and a decrease in discipline needs.
“Students are engaged and teachers are getting the most out of all their students,” Campbell-Rush said in the press release.
