Arizona-based natural foods market to take over former Town Center Best Buy space

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sprouts Farmers Market is coming to Jacksonville to fill the vacant Best Buy location at The Markets at Town Center. It’ll be its seventh Florida store to add to its 300 locations nationwide.

A spokesperson told Action News Jax that “a lease has been executed at this time. Grand opening and hiring details will be announced in 2019.”

“I think that would be great; I mean, it’d be positive; more jobs for everybody,” said Bianca Collins.

According to its website, Sprouts seeks out locations close to populations that have more than 100,000 people within 10 minutes.

The new location fits right in with several apartment buildings already up across the street and numerous local housing developments nearby.

The area of the town center is showing no signs of slowing down but with that growth also comes the traffic.

“I think the traffic is crazy we also got people from Georgia that come here and want to shop here,” Collins said.

Despite Publix and Aldi nearby, locals are excited about having more grocery choices.

“I think that this would be a great idea to expand and have different stores from different places, even if it means having to put up with increased traffic," Collins said. “It’s actually putting money in our city and when the money comes in our city that helps us out."

It’s unclear what will take the space of the former Toys ‘R Us location but Action News Jax reported back in June how the property manager said there are plans on subdividing the 70,000-square-foot space.
