Back to school event scheduled in West Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The New Town Success Zone is holding their sixth annual Back to School event.

Children receive free school supplies, clothes, physicals and eye exams.

Lunch will be provided to attending families.

Five hundred -- 700 families are expected.

The New Town Success Zone is a collaboration between the City of Jacksonville, Edward Waters College and area nonprofits.

"Many families in this area simply go without, and we try to take as much off the table to ensure kids will be ready for school. This is the community's response to make certain our children will be prepared to learn from day one," said the New Town Success Zone executive director Dr. Irvin Pedro Cohen.

The event will be Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Adams-Jenkins Sports and Music Complex on the Edwards Waters campus.
