A Jacksonville special needs student said he feels like a lucky duck after his best friend asked him to prom.
Zachary Gordon, a junior at Baldwin Middle-Senior High school, said he was shocked when senior Meredith Bowlus asked him to the big dance.
“I was surprised. My hands were shaking,” Gordon said.

Bowlus came up with a creative way to ask Gordon to prom.
She gave him two baby ducks and pulled out a sign that read, “I would be a lucky duck if you said yes to prom with me.”
Gordon said “yes.”
“I feel like a lucky duck,” Gordon said. “She has a good heart and she’s really nice.”
Bowlus said she’s excited to make prom special for Gordon, who has never been to a school dance before.

She said they plan on taking pictures and getting sushi before the dance, which is Gordon’s favorite food.
While she didn’t do this gesture to gain recognition or praise, she said she hopes it inspires others to be kind.
“No matter who it is, you know, everybody deserves respect, kindness, a smile even to make somebody’s day,” Bowlus said.
Gordon said he already has his suit and is counting down the days until the big night, April 27.
“This will be a night that I always to [sic] remember,” Gordon said. “I can’t wait. Time is going so slow.”
Gordon kept the baby ducks as pets. He’s still trying to come up with names.
