Body found in a flooded ditch in Fleming Island

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla — The Clay County Sheriff's Office found the body of a 22-year-old man early Saturday morning in a flooded ditch line along Lakeshore Drive North in the Fleming Island.
 
According to CCSO, the victim, Abel Villalobos left a friend's home nearby sometime after 2 a.m. on a golf cart, and at some point the golf cart was driven into the ditch and became stuck. 
 
Officers say Villalobos was able to call friends for assistance. 
 
Police tell Action News the man's friends later discovered him in the ditch near the golf cart. 
 
At this time it appears to be an accidental drowning, but the CCSO has assigned a homicide investigator to the incident.

Police are still investigating and waiting on an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death.
