Body found in canal near Santa Fe Lake, according to deputies

A body was found in a canal connected to Santa Fe Lake in Bradford County, according to the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

According to BCSO,  the body was found near the area of 495 SE 1st St. in Melrose.

Officials are working with residents in the area and searching for more information at this time.

The body has not been identified. Sheriff Gordon Smith said it appears to be the body of a young white man in his 20s or 30s.

Bradford County officials have taken the body out of the canal, and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office will be taking the lead in this investigation.
