Columbia County Sheriff's Office captures escaped inmate

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE AUG. 29 AT 8:39 PM: The Columbia County Sheriff's Office announced that the escaped inmate was taken into custody without incident.

CCSO didn't provide much detail regarding his capture, but said, "he will be booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on escape charges."

UPDATE AUG. 28 AT 3:30 PM: The search in the field for Trevor Ewell Thomas has been called off at this time, CCSO says.

An additional investigation is being conducted and a warrant for his escape is forthcoming. Local, state and federal resources are continuing to track down the Thomas.

The Sheriff's Office and assisting agencies do not believe Thomas poses a significant threat to the community, however if he is seen call 911 immediately instead of approaching him.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is searching for Trevor Ewell Thomas, an inmate escaped inmate. Thomas walked away from his work crew assignment in Deep Creek on Highway 441 North of Lake City at approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning.

Several units will be in the area searching. If you have any information or if you see anything or anyone suspicious call CCSO Dispatch at 386-719-2005 or 9-1-1 immediately.
