BRUNSWICK, Ga. — It’s been one year since a Brunswick teen was shot in the head with a BB gun.
Elijah Hill, 13, said he’s grateful to be here. One year ago this week, he was in a hospital fighting for his life after police said another child shot him in the head with a BB gun in a Brunswick neighborhood.
“The doctor actually stated that she was surprised he even survived a wound like that. The BB traveled through his brain,” Ashantae Hill, Elijah’s mother said.
Hill said she was told there wasn’t much hope for her son after he suffered brain damage.
“It felt like a hammer was hitting me on the head,” Elijah said.
For nearly two weeks, he couldn’t talk or eat. But then he uttered his first words, and he continued to improve each day.
So great to see 13yo Elijah Hill tonight... he was shot in the head with a BB gun one year ago this week. He suffered brain damage and couldn’t talk or walk for nearly two weeks

“I kept fighting,” Elijah said.
During rehab, he learned to walk again.
He still has the BB in his head. You can still see the scars and he still feels pain from time to time. But this fighter continues to push on.
“Stay grateful, stay peaceful and put the guns down,” he said.
