Green Cove Springs police are investigating a rash of car break-ins that took place Saturday night in the Magnolia West Sub-division in Clay County.
“I never thought it would happen here,” says neighbor Karen Milligan whose car was stolen. “They attempted to steal from all of these houses on the street and behind us,”
Milligan says she and her family got home late and closed the garage door but the door - unknown to her - went back up because it hit some Christmas decorations. She also accidentally left her keys in the car.
Milligan says the SUV had some dents when it was found on Dunn Avenue, but the thieves didn’t leave empty-handed.
“They took my wallet, my camera, my old phone,” says Milligan.
FDLE says in Clay County during the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, burglaries have slightly increased from 300 to 307, while vehicle thefts have shot up more than 40 percent from 81 to 122
