CCSO: Elementary student holds shard of glass to 11-year-old's throat on playground

3/12/19 UPDATE:

The Clay County Sheriff's Offic has said that this case is being ”exceptionally cleared” as a simple battery.

CCSO said the evidence obtained proved that there was never an attempted stabbing, but that the one child did grab the other child by the hoodie.

CCSO said that is the only incident that occurred, so the victims parents have declined to prosecute, clearing the case without prosecution.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said an elementary student stuck a shard of glass to an 11-year-old’s throat on the playground.

Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn has a full report on CBS47/FOX30. WATCH LIVE:

Tuesday, Action News Jax spoke exclusively with the alleged victim, Cameron Nolan, and his mother, Maelynn Nolan.

According to the report, two other students witnessed what happened Friday at Lake Asbury Elementary School in Green Cove Springs.

“I'm walking back, he walks up to me, and then puts his arm around me, and then puts the shard to my neck,” Cameron said.

Cameron said he has had issues with the student in past.

The Clay County School District said it is unaware of any past problems.

“I just wanted answers,” said Maelynn Nolan.

She said her son told her about the incident Friday.

“I was upset, I was angry, I was scared,” she said.

Action News Jax obtained the message that went home to parents from the school district.  It states the student found the sharp object on the playground and used it in a way that could possibly harm another student.

“I just want to know, why it was there?” Maelynn Nolan said.

Action News Jax posed that question to a school district representative and asked what's being done about it.

They said this is uncommon, and student safety remains their top priority.

“What's going through your mind during all that?” Action News Jax Reporter Russell Colburn asked Cameron.

“I need help,” Cameron said.  “I have to get him off me.”

“It just scared me … really, really bad,” he added.

Action News Jax went by the other student's home for comment, and no one came to the door.

The school district said it doesn't comment on student discipline.  The Nolans said the other child was suspended for ten days and is facing expulsion.

Maelynn Nolan said she filed for a Temporary Injunction for Protection Against Repeat Violence.

She said she wants to make sure this never happens again.

“This is too close of a call for me.  I’m putting my foot down this time,” she said.
