Clay mom arrested for child abuse after smoking marijuana in car with child inside, report says

A local mother was arrested for smoking marijuana while in a closed vehicle with her child in the back seat, according to a Clay County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Just after 6 p.m. Sunday,  Amanda Webb, 36, was traveling west on County Road 218 at 67 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, catching the attention of a deputy, according to an arrest report.

During the traffic stop, the deputy said there was a "strong odor of freshly burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle" along with a "cloud of smoke" as Webb let down her window.

A K-9 deputy sniffed the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and about 4.27 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

"Based on the defendant's actions of driving the vehicle under the influence of marijuana and the chemical inhalation of marijuana, it could reasonably be expected to result in physical or mental injury to her child who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident," the Sheriff's Office report stated.

According to the CCSO report, the Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident through their abuse hotline and is investigating.

Webb faces charges of child abuse, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession and received a citation for speeding.
