Chicago Pizza, GLHF Game Bar closes down 7 months after mass shooting

Seven months after a mass shooting, Chicago Pizza and the Good Luck Have Fun Game Bar inside the restaurant will close their doors.

That’s according to Tracy Considine, the attorney for their landlord, Sleiman Enterprises.

Considine confirmed that Sleiman sent the owners a notice that they had five days to pay overdue rent or face eviction.

“I think it’s a little insensitive, actually. I think that’s awful to do,” said Bekah James, who was visiting Jacksonville Landing on Thursday.

Considine said Sleiman Enterprises and the owners of the restaurant and bar have since reached an agreement to terminate the lease.

“There’s no point in them trying to fight an eviction if they’re not making money to begin with,” said Considine. “They were struggling before the shooting, along with the rest of the tenants. The Landing has been a challenge.”

Considine denies the move is related to the business's past fire code violations or the fact that the game bar was operating without a permit during the mass shooting, according to the city.

Eventually, all the businesses will have to leave the Jacksonville Landing, after the city and Sleiman Enterprises reached a $15 million agreement to vacate.

“It’s a bummer because this place has kind of been going downhill for a while and I thought we were going to try to build it up and make it better,” said Terrance Ogden, who brought his friends to the Landing on Thursday.

Consodine said he’s not aware of any other lease terminations with the other businesses still left at the Landing.

The mayor has asked the city for $1.5 million to settle those subleases.

Action News Jax reached out to the owners of Chicago Pizza and the Good Luck Have Fun Game Bar, but they did not respond.
