The city of Jacksonville has issued tens of thousands of dollars in fines to local trash companies for violating contracts.
The city subcontracts three private companies for trash collection: Advanced Disposal Services, Republic Services (formerly Southland Waste Systems) and Waste Pro USA.
Between the three companies, they have been fined more than $132,000.
According to the city, Republic Service is facing the biggest fine at $108,335. The trash company services the Northside and Arlington areas.
Waste Pro, which services the south and southeast, received $21,000 in fines.
The other company, Advanced Disposal Services, which services the southwest area of Jacksonville, has racked up $3,050 in fines.
In August, an Action News Jax investigation uncovered the city has received 42,036 complaints so far this year.
We reached out to the city for updated numbers and we’re still waiting to hear back.
