Clara White Mission provides Thanksgiving meal and kinship for those in need

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends, but not everyone in Northeast Florida is able to sit down and have that family meal.

The Clara White Mission is a local charity that wants to make sure no one eats alone and it takes a lot of volunteers to make that happen.

Hundreds of people in Jacksonville are in need, including the young homeless population.

"You find that some of the most amazing people end up in the worst places," said 16-year-old volunteer Joshua Johnson.

When you think of Thanksgiving family and food come to mind. But what about those who don't have family, food or even a place to sleep?

The Clara White Mission is there to help a 25-year-old man who lost almost everything.

"Sometimes sleeping outside in the cold sometimes," said Chris Hughey. "I lost my house."

Johnson and Hughey are crossing paths, spending time together, creating smiles and making a difference.

"And you wonder how did they get to here and it made us go back and question what do we really find appreciation for," Johnson said.

Different worlds, different lives but one common message this Thanksgiving.

"Appreciate what we have and being able to give back to those who don't have much," Johnson said.

$25 will provide 10 meals and the Clara White Mission is running a veteran food drive through Dec. 11.
