Clay County deputies: Person shot after car burglaries at Doctors Inlet Reserve

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Action News Jax is working to learn the condition of a person shot after a car burglary in Clay County.

TRENDING:

Neighbors in the Doctors Inlet Reserve subdivision in Middleburg said they woke up to the sound of the gunfire and detectives knocking on their doors at 5 a.m. Sunday.

“We asked him what was going on. Police cars are all up and down the road, our yard had been police taped off,” neighbor Bruce Harrell said. “They said a violent crime had happened on the other side of the tape.”

Clay County deputies confirmed someone who lives in the area was shot after a car burglary, but they wouldn’t say who. That person has injuries not considered life-threatening.

"What I understand happened was somebody tried to break into a car down here, the homeowner caught him, gave pursuit, chased him I don't know how far," Harrell said.
Action News Jax found a trail of blood leading to several homes along Hollow Glen Drive.

One neighbor said the victim came up to his door for help but he was asleep.

Surveillance cameras are located at the only entrance to the neighborhood.

“Hopefully that captured whatever they need to be able to track, the ones they need to track,” Harrell said.
