Suspect identified in officer-involved shooting in Clay County

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — UPDATED STORY 3/1/2021:

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has identified the suspect killed in the officer incident that occurred on Burwick Ave as 32-year-old Rudy M. Duvivier.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.

ORIGINAL STORY 2/28/2021:

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting Saturday around 10:50 p.m. at 2121 Burwick Ave.

Once they arrived on scene, they began searching for the source of the shots, and encountered an armed individual who then began shooting at the deputies.

Deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Orange Park Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical center.

No deputies were injured during the incident.

Three deputies were involved, none of which were injured.

The deputies involved have three, five, and six years of law enforcement experience.

This is the first officer-involved shooting for all three deputies.

Officials are working to notify the suspect’s next of kin before releasing any identification.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the incident.

Sheriff Cook provided the following statement at the scene:

“I am thankful that the men and women who bravely serve our community prevailed tonight. We appreciate our community’s continued support, and I ask that we keep all of the individuals involved in tonight’s incident in your thoughts and prayers.”
