1 teen dead, several other teens hurt following crash in Lake City

A crash in Columbia County left one teenager dead and several other teenagers hurt Thursday night.

At 10:40 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said a car with five teens was traveling southbound on SW Tustenuggee Avenue, near SW Minnie Glen in Lake City, when it went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers said the car then overturned multiple times, throwing a 15-year-old passenger out of the car. He died at the scene.

The FHP report said he was not wearing a seat belt. Another 15-year-old passenger was seriously hurt.

FHP said the 15-year-old driver and the two other 17-year-old passengers have minor injuries.

On Friday morning, Action News Jax spoke with the father of the teen killed. He identified his son as Nevaeh Highsmith and shared a photo of him with Action News Jax’s Jessica Barreto.
