Community rallies around girl after parents killed in Brunswick murder-suicide

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — 6-year-old Eva Diaz has the cutest, most memorable face.

Police say her father, Jesus, shot her in the head Saturday, forcing her to crawl to a neighbor for help.

She was airlifted to Savannah Memorial Hospital.

“It was very shocking. Sad,” neighbor Alicia Davis said.

Jesus, or Alexis as his family called him, also allegedly killed his wife Emiko before turning the gun on himself. When officers showed up to Westminster Club Apartments, they found the bodies inside Apartment 6. The Glynn County Police Department tells us it has detectives out working, trying to put the pieces together.

“They’re a quiet couple. Very loving father. Very loving parents. I don’t know what happened to them,” neighbor James Sheppard said.

Emiko’s close friend tells Action News Jax's Erica Bennett the young mother loved her family more than anything and graduated from college with honors.

We also found out she worked at Apple Support and Kyoto Express. Her manager did not want to go on camera but says Emiko was “hard working, deeply loved and will be missed.”

As family and friends prepare to bury her, and Jesus’ family grieves as well – the focus is on sweet Eva and her getting better.

“She’s a very nice little girl. I hope she makes it,” Sheppard said.

A candlelight vigil was held Monday night at the Diaz home. Friends of Emiko plan on holding another one Saturday.
