JACKSONVILLE, Fla — While the housing market in Northeast Florida is booming, many future home buyers ask the question, “should I buy a home with a homeowners association?”

Our Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says, “if you look at your home as your castle, you want to live the way you want. Never buy into a mandatory homeowners association community.”

HOAs tell homeowners certain requirements in the community, like what style of fence you can have or what color you can paint your house.

Clark adds, “on the other hand, the advantage of living in one, is you have the uniformity. You don’t have to worry about a neighbor pulling down the values of other people’s homes, because they’re not taking care of their home or yard.”
