Coronavirus: 21 more people in the Jacksonville area have died from COVID-19, health officials say

FLORIDA — Florida health officials reported 8,109 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the state on Wednesday morning.

The state’s total case numbers have now reached 550,901 with 8,765 deaths.

In Northeast Florida, 434 new cases have been reported, bringing the total number of cases in our area to 38,869.

Officials also reported nearly 600 new COVID-19 hospitalizations within the state, and 213 new deaths.

21 of those people died in the Jacksonville area as a result of the virus: twelve in Duval, four in Columbia, three in St. Johns, one in Putnam and one in Clay counties.
