JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - About 90% of students at Edward Waters College are dealing with some kind of financial struggles. Many want to stay in school, but don’t have the money. School leaders came up with a solution to get rid of some of their debt.

It’s called the EWC financial match, which means that if students have a balance of up to $3,500, the school will match whatever the outstanding balance is.

“We were noticing that a number of our students were wanting to stay in school, making academic progress, but many of our students are having to get out because of finances,” said A. Zachary Faison Jr.

Students must have at least a 2.0 grade point average, face no disciplinary issues, and have tried to get financial help elsewhere.

About 54 students have applied so far. The deadline to apply is July 15. Action News Jax was told the school is using their scholarship and financial funds, but told no other programs or funds are suffering.
