Don’t give puppies on a whim ahead of the holidays, breeder warns.

Jacksonville, FL. — Diane Day, a Havanese breeder, wants people to think twice before giving a pet as a surprise Christmas present.

Day tells Action News Jax she’s worried there’ll be an uptick in neglected and homeless pets after the holidays end.

She urges people to strongly consider if they’re ready for a pet, citing that it’s an eight-to 14-year commitment.

And you can save big as Black Friday Weekend comes to an end.

Adoption fees are waived during the three-day event at Animal Care and Protective Services and the Jacksonville Humane Society.

Animal Care and Protective Services hours are Sunday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Jacksonville Humane Society hours are Sunday, 29, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
