Double shooting has Jacksonville neighborhood on edge, two women in hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A manhunt is underway for the gunman who shot two women on Jacksonville's westside Tuesday night.

One of the women is in the hospital in critical condition. The other was also hurt but expected to survive.

A neighbor's surveillance camera captured the moment two cars drove down a neighborhood street seconds before two women were shot.

“As you can see that is the young lady's car right there. They’re being followed by that white car right there,” said a homeowner who asked not to be named.

While they were in their homes, getting ready for bed neighbors say gunshots sounded off like fireworks.

“I heard about 30-40 shots,” said one resident.

“It’s scary especially whenever it’s in your front door,” Kayla Vetere added.

“There is always a shooting somewhere,” said Cindi Vanvleck.

Police were called to Woodcrest Road a few minutes after nine o’clock Wednesday night.

One neighbor says he rushed to help the two women before police got there.

“One had been shot in the back of the head. There were shell casings everywhere. It was just too much, man,” he added.

JSO told Action News Jax more than two dozen bullets were fired at the women when they pulled into a driveway.

According to a report one of the suspects fired shots while standing out of a sunroof.

Stray bullets also went through the window of a truck parked nearby.

Right now, police continue to search for a white four door sedan.

“I just know, from what I understand they were trying to get away from the car that was following them,” said the homeowner who asked not be named.

JSO says both women appear to be in their 20s or 30s.

Two years ago, 21-year-old Jahleel George was shot and killed inside a home next door to where the shooting happened.

Neighbors are hoping the two women recover from the shooting.

“I hope they catch whoever did it, really, and that the two young ladies survive,” said Vanvleck.

If you know anything about the shooting call JSO.
