Drainage a continuous problem for St. Johns County subdivision

Homeowners in one St. Johns County neighborhood say their yards and streets flood frequently, to the point where it’s eroding their properties.

This is at the Windward Ranch Subdivision, built by Lennar Homes.

Neighbors claim their back and side yards are sloping down as the soil continues to wash away.

“Even the corners of some of the foundations seem to be dipping or the patios seem to be dipping,” said homeowner Mitch Ghaneie.

Neighbors tell us the woods behind one row of the homes is constantly flooded, killing the trees in their place.

After our initial story ran in November, homeowners say Lennar came out and planted a few new smaller trees. Neighbors say it feels like nothing more than a band-aid.

“I know that how they’ve addressed some of my issues haven’t really been ideal,” said Ghaneie.

With all these concerns piling up, neighbors are starting to wonder how their HOA fees are being spent.

Action News Jax obtained the 2019 proposed budget for the Windward Ranch homeowner’s Association.

It includes more than $27,000 for “virtual guard security,” but neighbors claim that money was for the automated keypad entrance that’s been gone since last year.

The budget also includes $6500 for an “amenity center phone.”

We reached out to Lennar Homes multiple times this week to ask about the drainage concerns and these charges, but didn’t hear back.
