STORY: Jacksonville Beach man arrested for stalking twice in one month
A driver was killed when they struck a thick metal pole that holds four traffic lights above San Jose Blvd., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
The accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. the intersection of San Jose Blvd. and Old St. Augustine Road. The driver was ejected and died at the scene, JSO said.
The pole that holds the lights was bent, authorities say all lanes of San Jose Blvd. and Old St. Augustine Road will be closed indefinitely due to the damage.
Traffic is being rerouted onto Kori Road.
This is still a very active scene. You can see they managed to place that shredded vehicle on a tow truck. JSO says the driver hit a metal post and is now dead. @ActionNewsJax @WOKVNews pic.twitter.com/AzqaMWdQJX

This is what I’m seeing right now. A tow truck hauled the car off. There’s still four JSO cars and several officers blocking off the scene. I asked when they’re going to clear the scene and allow traffic to move again, they tell me there is no timeframe. @ActionNewsJax @WOKVNews pic.twitter.com/4Loujx7QZf

Look at this post. You can see it’s slightly bent. But it is THICK metal that holds FOUR traffic lights. That tells you how hard the driver must have hit it for it to move even that much. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/YQ9IAQchAy
