Action News Jax, WOKV partner with Salvation Army to give Christmas gifts to local family

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Each holiday season, with the help of the Jacksonville/Northeast Florida Salvation Army, Action News Jax and our CMG radio stations including 104.5 WOKV adopt at least one family that has fallen on hard times to try to brighten their Christmas.

Today, we surprised the Velazquez family with a wide array of gifts for Tina and her 13-year-old daughters Gabby and Izzy.

Tina is a single mother and Army veteran and will have leg surgery near the end of the month.

A plumbing problem has made a mess of her home, destroying Tina’s bed, so she has been sleeping on an air mattress on the floor.

We were happy to be able to deliver a new bed complete with a mattress, fresh sheets and a comforter.

Also, there was no Christmas tree when we arrived, so

Major Biggers with the Salvation Army made a quick trip to his stash of donated trees.

Now gifts surround the Christmas tree.

Gabby and Izzy will surely have a Christmas they will never forget and Tina will hopefully rest a little more comfortably in the nights ahead.
