JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Action News Jax reporter, Meghan Moriarty, spoke with two women who said they had their bikes stolen. Both said their bikes were locked, but it appeared they were cut.
The thefts appear to be happening at apartment complexes. Action News Jax obtained an email sent to Ocean Edge residents warning about several bike thefts in the last 2 to 3 weeks. BluWater Apartments residents also told Action News Jax they had bikes stolen too.
Here are some tips from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department to keep your bike safer:
- Purchase a heavy-duty lock or chain. Simple cable locks can be easily cut or broken.
- Ask your local bike shop for a recommended brand.
- Take note of the serial number on your bike. Write it down or store the number in your phone.
