JFRD: 1 seriously hurt after crash on Dupont Ave. off San Jose Blvd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A crash on Dupont Avenue off San Jose Boulevard left a vehicle overturned and a mangled trailer attached to a nearby tree Wednesday morning.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said its crews responded to the crash in the 7000 block of Dupont Avenue at 3:25 a.m. and took one person with serious injuries to a local hospital.

Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash but have since left.

Andrew Kelsay is the owner of Lawns By Chris and owns the trailer with all the lawn equipment. He says he saw the driver of the car that hit this trailer being extracted and it was actually moments after he had arrived home from a second job and had gone to sleep. He also mentioned he had planned to go work on a lawn this afternoon but now he’s not sure what will come next.

“I just heard a bang. And I saw the trailer was gone,” he recalls of the crash. “I’m just glad he’s ok,” he said as he referred to the driver, and added that all his equipment can be replaced.

Action News Jax spoke with neighbors who say they were shocked by this sight and they hope everyone can take a lesson from it.

“I was shocked. I was completely surprised. This is not what we see in our neighborhood at all,” said Cyndi Hodges. “It scares me. People need to slow down.” It is unclear if speed was a factor in this crash.
