Update your address, election officials warn mail in ballot could get lost in the mail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As election season ramps up, the Duval County Supervisor of Elections reminds voters to update their address. Mike Hogan said residents move and forget to tell their local DMV or election office.

“It happens all the time,” he said.

Oftentimes Hogan said the mail-in ballots they send out get returned. However, he said there shouldn’t be a concern for voter fraud. Mail-in ballots require a signature, which election employees cross-check with a signature on file.

In Florida, voters must request a mail-in ballot, in which they will get a form to fill out. Hogan said if you never received a mail-in ballot, or lost it, you can call the office and request a second one.

Hogan also reminds voters to send in their ballots by the end of September which will allow enough time for the elections office to correct something if mailing does not work.
