The city of Jacksonville has a new bill aimed to curb human trafficking.
The new city law will impose tighter regulations on adult entertainment businesses, including requiring performers to be at least 21. All adult entertainment performers will now have to get performers’ work ID cards.
The city said Jacksonville has the third highest number of human trafficking cases in the state. According to the National Human Trafficking hotline, victims of sex trafficking are often recruited to work in strip clubs. The mayor believes this new bill will change that.
Clubs can’t hire performers without the card. Jacksonville is among the last communities in the state to require their registration.
