DCPS plans new website with COVID-19 related information for parents

Jacksonville, Fla. — Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) planned on launching a new website filled with COVID-19 related information for parents by end of day on Monday, July 6th. The district wanted to launch the site to give parents the information they need as they decide whether their children should learn from home online, or in schools.

But the district's launch plans were sidelined late Monday afternoon as Florida's Department of Education issued an executive order on statewide guidance for reopening and back to school plans.

A DCPS spokesperson tells Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson, the district is evaluating the rules outlined by the state and will adjust as necessary.

Earlier in the day, DCPS said it was finalizing the new website, which would outline back to school options, transpiration information, and safety measures.

Following the release of the executive order, the district said it’d be postponing the release of the site, to review the executive order and ensure the district’s plans are in compliance with what the state demands.
