Diaper Bank of Northeast Florida short on diapers due to supply chain hold-up

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s the most challenging year yet for the Diaper Bank of Northeast Florida, which distributes diapers to hundreds of families. The charity is struggling to help people in need because of the supply chain hold-up.

Mary Jackson receives diapers for the two babies she’s currently caring for.

“And not only do they do diapers, they do clothes, bottles, food, I mean, it’s just amazing,” Jackson explained.

Local mom Crystal Parks founded the Diaper Bank because she saw a need in the community.

Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, driving up demand as families barely hanging on could no longer make ends meet.

So far this year, Parks says the bank has distributed a record 158,000 diapers to families like the Jacksons.

But now, the Diaper Bank is facing another hurdle: The supply chain hold-up has caused diapers and pull-ups to go on the back order, Parks told Action News Jax.

Parks says the Diaper Bank is in desperate need of sizes 5 and 6 diapers, as well as pull-ups. She says larger-sized diapers account for almost half of what’s distributed by the bank.

Jackson wishes the Diaper Bank had been around when she had her first child at age 15.

When asked what her family would do if the Diaper Bank weren’t around now, Jackson said, “some things about to get cut out,” adding, “thank God for the Diaper Bank.”
