Family and friends hold vigil to honor 27-year-old woman found dead in a Jacksonville pond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville military family is grieving the loss of their daughter.

One week ago, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found the body of missing 27-year-old Teresa Gorczyca in a ditch.

Despite finding the body, the family is left with more questions than answers.

It was an extremely emotional night on Thursday as her family and friends created a memorial for her where police found her body.

They came together in prayer to honor and remember their kind and loving daughter, sister and friend.

It’s still too difficult to comprehend for many, but each tried with candles in hand to remember the bright light she was.

“Teresa was very positive and encouraging to everyone,” her oldest sister, Kimberly, said.

But it’s hard when so many questions remain — no one able to fight back the tears.

JSO still hasn’t said how she died or whether it was a crime. No one even knows what her last moments were like.

Until those questions are answered, her family can’t put into words what they’re feeling, but they’re grateful for everyone who has stepped up during this time.

“Thank you for everyone who has already done so much for us.”

The family wasn’t ready to go on camera for an interview, but they are begging people who might know what happened to Teresa to please call JSO.

Action News Jax reached out to JSO see if there has been any updates in the case, but we have not yet gotten a response.
