U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) toured JAXPORT on Monday and held a roundtable discussion on supply chains.
During the meeting, Rubio heard from three Jacksonville-based ocean carriers serving Puerto Rico about how the domestic trade supports supply-chain security and jobs.
Rubio believes JAXPORT can benefit from that business.
“There’s some real exciting opportunities for the country, which I think are really exciting for JAXPORT as well,” Rubio said. “We have an opportunity, for example, if we can pass my bill to bring back pharmaceuticals to Puerto Rico, of which, JAXPORT could be an extraordinary beneficiary of it.”
According to JAXPORT, about 90% of the goods that move between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico move through JAXPORT.
