High school seniors disappointed about game cancellations

JACKSONVILLE AREA, Fla. — The Clay County School District suspended all after-school activities and sports leagues until further notice.

Students will be out of school until at least April 15.

This comes as a mandate from the Florida governor amid coronavirus outbreak concerns.

The NCAA has suspended its winter and spring sports seasons, and professional sports teams have done the same.

For student-athletes, including High School senior Caleb Parks, this is disappointing.

Parks last game was last Friday. The next day, he got the word about the suspension. As of right now, he will not have a senior prom, senior graduation bash or most importantly, no senior night game.

This is a moment he has looked forward to for a long time. Even before Parks attended Clay High School, he would come and watch every game when he was in the sixth grade.

The baseball coach at the time, called Parks the team’s lucky charm.

Parks is expected to attend the Illinois Institute of Technology in the fall. He was asked to play baseball there, as well.

If all goes well, that plan will still happen. However, if things don’t get better, he will be staying closer to home.
