JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida is a tourist destination all year-round, especially during the summer because it’s typically a time where students are out of school. But it’s been a tough summer for some businesses due to COVID-19. This is the 3rd holiday weekend they’ve had to endure during the pandemic.
On Action News Jax at 5, Action News Jax Courtney Cole speaks to local business owners about sales this holiday weekend.
COVID-19 has made this year a TOUGH one for small business owners. But on this Labor Day holiday, the owners of One of Each Gifts in Jax Beach told me, "We are very encouraged by the crowds right now." Jonathan Brown & David Ivey said Saturday was the slower day. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/7WG01kednE

One of Each Gifts store has been in Jacksonville for 8 years.
On a good weekend, the owners tell me they make about $5,000. On a normal weekend, they told me they will probably do half or third of that. “It’s very up and down.”
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Between the March and April surveys, The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates total private employment to have fallen by 19.6 million, or 15.2 percent, the largest decline in the history of the data series.
