Jacksonville DREAMer weighs in on President Trump signaling a second attempt to cancel DACA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Action News Jax at 5:30, reporter Meghan Moriarty will break down the number of Floridians enrolled in DACA and you’ll hear from a local mom who is hoping this program stays in place.

Maria Rivera has lived in Jacksonville for 16 years. She was brought here from Honduras by her mother when she was 10-years-old. Since then, she graduated high school. She got married. She had two children, and now she runs her own wellness company.

Rivera is protected from deportation under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Thursday, The Supreme Court blocked President Donald Trump’s attempt to end the Obama-era benefit program. In a tweet, President Trump said “Many of the people in DACA, no longer very young, are far from ‘angels.' Some are very tough, hardened criminals. President Obama said he had no legal right to sign order, but would anyway. If Supreme Court remedies with overturn, a deal will be made with Dems for them to stay!”

On Friday, President Trump signaled that he would be refiling papers to the Supreme Court. In a tweet, he said “I have wanted to take care of DACA recipients better than the Do-Nothing Democrats, but for two years they refused to negotiate

They have abandoned DACA. Based on the decision the Dems can’t make DACA citizens.”
