Jacksonville man charged with killing two-month-old son sentenced Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Friday, Jerrontra White pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect.

An emotional White said the death of his two-month-old son in 2019 was not intentional.

“I’m aware of the pain and hurt. I’m sorry for my mistake,” White said. “… This was not intentional, but I will take ownership since our son has passed. I ask god for forgiveness.”

White faces 32 years in prison, with sentences on each count running concurrently, and credit for time served.

According to FDLE records, White is a registered sex offender.

Action News Jax reported in February 2020 White had charged with murder.

White was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse in November 2019.

According to that arrest report, White told investigators the baby began to fall out his arms while he was feeding him.

The report stated the ‘child’s head struck a nearby table” with ‘sufficient force to break the child’s skull.’

The report went on to say the baby’s mother left the child in White’s care for a few hours, and she later found the baby moaning and not able to make eye contact.

The report says white initially tried to downplay the baby’s symptoms.

The child died days later.

The baby’s mother, Jocelyn Johnson, also spoke in court today.

“No matter what was going on, Nate did not deserve this,” said Johnson. “I wish I could say I forgive you, but I’m not there yet. But I don’t wish any harm. I hope you can find god and forgive yourself.”
