Jaguars fans loving the buzz around potential head coaches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Rumors are buzzing in the Bold City as to who will be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. All signs on social media pointed to Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich being the guy, but football insiders say there’s no rush on a hiring yet.

For super fans like David Mendenhall and Danny Geogajgen, they were expecting an announcement Wednesday.

“We’re going to support our team no matter what. We are super fans, we are in love with our team, all we ask if that it goes in the right direction, and we’re really excited to see what Khan does,” Mendenhall said.

After hearing the buzz and seeing reports that Leftwich might take over the helm, the two showed up to the bank in hopes to welcome him home and even made signs to show the former Jags quarterback some appreciation.

“This one is to welcome our new coach Byron Leftwich and this one is to welcome him back home,” said Mendenhall.

NFL reporter and insider Adam Schefter tweeted that the Jaguars are still figuring out the head coach process, talking with Leftwich, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and others.

Regardless, fans like Mendenhall love the idea of Leftwich coming to the Bold City.

“He’s a player’s coach, he can work with the players, get them what they want, what they need on the field and work with them,” he said.

The Jaguars are coming off yet another rough season at 3-14 and filled with drama under Urban Meyer, but fans are hoping for a strong turnaround.

“I know we are tired of rebuilding but hey, we are going to get it this time and we are going to be in the playoffs soon,” Geogajgen said.

No matter what happens next, they say it’s always:

“Duval until we die down here baby,” Geogajgen said.

While the fans hoped something would happen today, they said the higher ups need to make the right decision and want the best for the organization.
